Ben Lomond School, United States of America

Andy received a request from the Ben Lomond High School, in Utah, to visit the school and give some advice on playing, maintenance and all other relevant matters regarding the bagpipes. The school had recently formed its own pipe band and were planning a trip to Scotland, to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships in August 2004.

Andy flew down to Utah, following the March 2004 Chicago trip, and spent a week teaching the band and giving advice and pointers where necessary. There were noticeable improvements in the appearance, the sound and the ability of the band even over such a short period of time.

The band travelled to Scotland two prior to the World Pipe Band Championships. The Piping Services team helped set up and tune the Ben Lomond High School Pipe Band during their stay in Glasgow. The band went on to give a good performance in the Novice Juvenile grade at the 'Worlds'.

As part of their visit they climbed their Schools namesake, Ben Lomond, which is a mountain on the banks Loch Lomond in West Central Scotland. Dave joined them for this hike and was asked to play a couple of tunes at the top, following the pipe major producing a set of pipes from his small backpack.

It is hoped that this link will continue to develop over the coming years
