Mühldorf, Germany

September 2004

The band once more ventured out to Muhldorf in Bavaria, to take part in their international folk festival. aproximately 30 band members made the trip, unfortunately without any dancers, for five days, performing at the main festival site and also at a few additional venues around the area. Andy, Dave and Iain all took part, playing as a band and also doing some solo performances.

The first night as slightly less official and the band were invited to play in the village where the frestival organizer lives, which also included a local birthday party. The other nights saw the band performing in any of the three large marquees in front of thousands of eager German revellers.

One of the main highlights was, as ever, the performances in the Town Square, Town Hall, then the annual festival parade through the streets of Muhidorf, which all take place on the Sunday.

It was another successfull trip and saw a good handful of 'first time' travellers with the band, so the future potential both within the band and possibly Piping Services Scotland looks healthy

September 2002

Dave Smith, one of the pipers in the Williamwood Pipe Band, and his wife Margaret travelled to Mühldorf in September 2002, thus continuing the tradition of Williamwood Pipe Band members visiting the festival. Dave played at a number of smaller gigs and again performed for the Town Mayor.

September 2001

The band returned in September 2001 with a bigger and more established group. The group numbered approximately 30, again having two Highland Dancers in the travelling party.

The set up of the festival was the same as the previous visit and again the pipe band was a major attraction both during the evenings of the festival and in the parade through the streets of Mühldorf.

September 1999

In early September 1999, the Williamwood Pipe Band were asked to travel to this old and very beautiful Bavarian town to participate in their local folk festival.

Fifteen band members, including two Highland Dancers, performed and entertained at levels beyond anything we had previously experienced. In the evenings we performed in three marquees, each of which could accommodate approximately 5,000 Germans, Bavarians and Austrians, partaking in what they enjoy most, sampling the finest of their local liquid produce and the very best of entertainment from all corners of Europe.

The Williamwood Pipe Band was the principal attraction in their Grand Parade through the town, which included around ninety varied groups. We were reliably informed that up to eighty-five thousand spectators lined the streets and the festival grounds
