Plzen, Czech Republic
The Future
The Williamwood Pipe Band have been invited back
to Plzen to take part in their 2005 international music and dance festival.
At this time Andy, Dave and Iain all intend to go on this
trip to help develop the links already formed there. More information
will follow in due course
June 2002
The Williamwood Pipe Band were invited to Plzen, one of the primary
cities of the new Czech Republic and also coincidently the origin of
Pilsner Beer, during June 2002 to take part in a local folk and music
festival, along with groups from other countries round Europe. The band
played on several occasions in the Town Sqaure and also took part in
parades within the town.
Parts of the festival were held in other villages around Plzen, so
the band got the oppertunity to see many of the smaller towns within
the Czech Republic.
One of the highlights of the trip was when the band was invited to
play for the ceremonial part of the National Majorette Championships
of the Czech Republic. This was a great honour for the band and an even
better experience for the members.
